you wonder how week 12 went

this week was a little bit different than usual, little things spiced up my routine:-
i have 2 ulcers in my mouth, a really big one since monday and a relatively much more smaller one since yesterday
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
both ulcers are self induced. i brushed my teeth too hard and i poked the lower part of my gums on two seperate occasions =P
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and i met up with the pies, namely jess, ai ming, janet and sis of course for dinner yesterday night. i hadn't seen them for so so so long i can't remember when was the last time we met.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i deliberately decided not to bring my trench coat today to school because i had too many things to bring, 2 thick sports medicine books i borrowed from the library and 2 tupperwares of cakes for my PBL class AND the weather decided to be cold today so i ended up wearing my lab coat home (which i usually leave in my locker) =P
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
i interviewed a patient with schizophrenia on my clinical visit on tuesday. it is a kind of a mental disease which in layman term, they are insane (which i think is not entirely true) He was transfered from a psych hospital to the hospital i am visiting because he had an episode of pneumonia. The patient is a very friendly guy and believe me or not, he actually frankly told us that he was transfered from the psych hospital and when asked, he said that he has been there for 8 years and hoping to go back home soon. AND the thing is, he had one of his hand cuffed on the side of his bed. I didn't realize it until i performed a cardio examination on him and that was shocking. No wonder there were so many people in the room. (a guard, a health care provider, 2 family members) Obviously, my partner and I weren't told before hand that the guy has some mental illness, i doubt my tutor even knows that because when we presented the case to the class, everyone was shocked. but still, it was a really good experience. I learned what being non-judgemental really means. I wish him all the best.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and i have this HP assignment that is due on monday and it's about critically appraise a report of a clinical trial. and i don even know what the report is about, what position am i in to analyze it. and it worries me that i am not worried about that. maybe not yet =D
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
sis is having a flu/ cold and a wee bit feverish so i went to 7eleven intented to get some panadol. the thing is, the panadol that they sell is for stomach ache, not fever. weird. the three things i learned from pharmocology is paracetamol, which trade name is panadol is antipyretic, analgesic and has a little bit of antiinflammatory function and apparently that is not entirely true. so malu, this was the conversation between me and the guy behind the counter:-
Phey Yee: Hi, do you have Panadol?
(i saw it just beside the counter and reached for it and quickly i saw the words - for stomache). Oh, not for stomachache though. It's for fever
The Guy: we've only got one kind for that. and it is for the cold(pointing to others) this is for headache, this is for pain.
and that come from a 2nd year medical student (uu) he knows better than me can. hey, maybe he goes to med school as well. and the tablets are packed into little packages -- like all those "things" that are displayed behind the counter. and it was around 10 o'clock when i went out, and just use ur imagination, it's dark out there and it's a friday night, and when u see a girl coming out from a 7eleven shop stucking 2 little packages into her bag and walked really fast back home, what do you think?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
and that is how my week went by. and i am still stucked with HP and that's why i am blogging now.
