i thought if moderation is good, more is better
every uni has their own unique culture. for the melbie meddies, we bring food to our twice every week PBL tutorials. i absolutely love the idea, not because i love food (i love food but not PBL food because food that i love just can't be brought to PBL- it's okay if u don get what i mean, don't stress) but because for people like me who are not very knowledgeable and creative, i don't have much to offer to the class, so to make up for my lack of academic contribution, i am determined to bring good a.k.a. healthy a.k.a. home made food to PBL. so for the past two and half years, i have been consistently baking for my 5 different PBL groups (a totally legitimate reason for me to bake!)
*
I am the food person again tomorrow. this semester i have baked blueberry muffins, lemon cupcakes, double chocolate chips muffins, blueberries cobbler for PBL (and no i don't bring the same thing twice, it's a matter of principle) so i decided that this time, i had to bake something WITHOUT using my muffin tins. And i had to have fruit in whatever i was going to bake. and after looking through literally a dozen recipes, i picked a recipe with peaches and almond in it :D
*
Peach Frangipane
and you know how i LOVE fruits in my cake, so i decided to double the peaches at the top *grin*
ooo~~~ and look at those very succulent peach slices
*
Pioneer Woman once said "if moderation is good, then more is better!"
so apart from doubling the peaches, i brushed loads and loads of honey on my peaches too!
*
and guess what?
*
TADAH
i burnt my frangipane *frown*
well it's not toooooo overly burnt, it's just the edge
and the reason behind it?
too much peaches at the top making it harder to cook especially in the middle so i had to double my baking time and ended up burning the edge to have a cooked centre. (my bad)
and
too much honey, sugar tends to caramelize hence the very BLACK crust (my bad)
and
uneven heating
this doesn't affect little goodies such as muffins and cupcakes and cookies because they have larger 'surface area/ volume' i.e. they cook more easily but when it comes to bigger cake, i am pretty much screwed =.= (my oven's bad)
*
so what did i do?
not like i am going to throw the whole thing away and bake another batch, i don't have any more peaches. besides, throwing away this amount of food is just too much for my conscience
*
so i decided to perform a minor procedure on my burnt frangipane
--> burn wound excision
please tell me the post-treatment frangipane looks slightly less burnt and more edible
i tried!
*
anyway, the fragipane should look like this
not so burnt and not so many peaches.
my first attempt was better than my 3rd attempt =.=
lesson of the day: moderation is good
