of new experience and new chapter

hey there! Greeting from Siem Riep :)

I am on a volunteery trip in Cambodia. Yes you hear me right. Melissa and Paul Jon will be joining me tomorrow and we will embark on a 4 weeks volunteery journey! Can't wait for them to be here.

it all started back in Feb. I was turning 21st and i started to reflect on my life. I have always wanted to volunteer - it's the whole giving back to the society thingy (yes my brain functions that way :P), and as far as i know, it's frigging hard for people who are under to 21 to do any volunteery work. it makes sense, you need/have to be responsible for yourself before you can help others. and after turning 21, this is the first thing that I want to do.

i browsed the net and came across Geovisions. They have all sorts of programs - teaching, humanitarian, environments, health, animal rights etc. and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that health is the way to go for me. I narrowed my selection down to Peru, Equador, South Africa and Cambodia and I finally settled down with Cambodia because it is nearer to home and my parents can, hopefully, be less worried. this is afterall, my first volunteery trip.

there was some minor hickup for my trip. i was supposed fly with Thai Airway but due to the riot in Bangkok, i decided to change my flight and fly with MAS instead. and well, u know what happen if you fly with MAS.

and this was not my plane.
well i thought it was, until i went through the gate and the aisle led me past this plane to another cute little one well hidden behind the plane shown in the pic ;) and the best part was, after all the passengers were settled down, we were told that there was some problem with the flight initial navigating system and the enginner couldn't fix it. so we disembarked, went to another gate, went through another screening and boarded another plane, equally small and cute plane.
*
it took us 1 hour 45 mins to sort all those things out.
*
we arrived at Siem Riep at 2.20pm local time and when i looked out of the window

i saw patches of green in the midst of brown

and a few red dots for houses.
and the entire place looks like this too.
and then it struck me that Siem Riep is much less developed that M'sia (yes i am slow that way).
*
my program included air port pick up. and you probably guessed it already, we took a tut tut, i.e. motorbike with cart to the guest house. it is a strange feeling. my red elle luggage looked very out of place, the heat and humidity was a little unpleasant, the roads are extremely dusty, the vehicles were driven side by side on a 2 way streets, i was confused. oh well, there is a lot to learn.

this is where i am staying for the night
